When Lui Jo was walking through the forest, he heard branches snapping, then, in the darkness, a low guttural roar. He realised something.
It was a very hungry tiger!
He began to walk quickly and then ran and, glancing back, he saw a huge animal padding along after him. So he ran even faster.
At last, he came to the edge of a cliff and realised he was trapped. He swung himself over the edge, grabbing on to tufts of grass that grew on the rim and simply dangled there, breathless and panting.
Maybe the tiger wouldn't see him and go away, but no, looking up, there was a striped face, large eyes and big teeth and peering over the precipice as it licked its lips.
Oh dear.
As if things could not get worse, he noticed some movement on the cliff path below. And into his sight strolled another huge tiger, the mate of the first one.
There she sat, expectantly at the foot of the cliff and watched him. It didn't look good.
And soon the clumps of grass he was holding onto began to loosen in the sandy soil and give way, little by little. He could feel it and hear it.
" Well. This is it. I'm done for" he thought. "What an end to an adventurous life, to be eaten by tigers!"
It was then he noticed that, just below the overhang was an unusual plant, invisible from the path above. It was a sort of very rare wild strawberry.
Reaching up, he pulled the fruit and popped it into his mouth and, as it melted and burst into flavour on his tongue, he smiled. Then spoke out loud:
" Oh my goodness. That's SO delicious!"
So here's a question.
What "hidden" pleasures or delights have YOU been able to discover at this time of uncertainty and anxiety?
I have rediscovered reading great novels, the morning birds singing in the trees outside, listening to old albums I have forgotten I had, relishing simple, tasty foods.
I have been watching brilliant and inspiring documentaries on You Tube, having occasional afternoon naps, and connecting with friends via social media.
Oh, and tidying up my websites, just like this one!
Stay well and be safe.
